SMA Community Cleanup Day

Dear Community Members,

Assalam-o-alykum wrwb,

As part of our ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship and community engagement, the Sarnia Muslim Association (SMA) is excited to announce our participation in Sarnia City’s Community Clean-Up Day! This annual event, coinciding with Earth Day, is a wonderful opportunity for us to contribute to the cleanliness and beauty of our city alongside fellow residents and organizations.

Event Details:

Date: April 28, 2024
Time: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Meeting Point: SMA Parking Area

This year, SMA has organized a comprehensive clean-up effort that extends beyond our premises. In addition to tidying our masjid exterior / windows, yard, and ground area, we will also be assisting in cleaning up the surrounding areas, including ‘The Gables Inn’ (Site#1) and ‘Howard Watson Nature Trail’ from Michigan Street near Goodwill towards Exmouth Street (Site #2) & The Suncor Energy Foundation Nature Way off modeland road (Site#3).

Clean-Up Kits:

SMA will provide all participants with Clean-Up Kits, containing essential tools for the tasks at hand. Trash disposal will be conveniently facilitated through the use of a designated dumpster located in the SMA parking area & there will be scheduled pickup from Site #2.

Volunteer Hours Opportunity:

High school students looking to fulfill their volunteer hour requirements are encouraged to join us for this event. By participating in the Community Clean-Up Day with SMA, students can earn valuable volunteer hours while making a positive impact on our community.

Refreshments & Appreciation:

Refreshments will be provided for all involved to debrief and appreciate after the event. Please join us in community clean up day followed by a volunteer appreciation reception and refreshments. Using this opportunity, certificates will be distributed for the volunteers who participated during Ramadan.

 

Safety Information:

The safety of all participants is of paramount importance to us. Please adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Follow the team leader for each team.
  • Wear proper closed-toe footwear and appropriate outdoor clothing.
  • Safety Vest & Gloves will be provided for added protection.
  • Maintain a safe distance from roadways and traffic, and wear visible clothing.
  • Ensure that participating children are under close supervision at all times.
  • Refrain from attempting to handle items that are too large, unstable, or potentially hazardous.
  • Do not pick up sharps such as needles, syringes, blades, broken glass, or other items that could cause injury without the aid of a sharps kit.

Let’s work together to make this Clean-Up Day a resounding success and a meaningful contribution to our community. Your participation and support are greatly appreciated, and we look forward to seeing you there!
